Louis Victor Jules Vierne

French composer, organist and music teacher born in 1870 and died in 1937. He was also the principal organist at Notre Dame Paris. He was born with cataracts, which left him near-blind, and later developed glaucoma, which left him completely blind. Despite this, he grew up to be a famous musician in France.

Jean Langlais

French composer born in 1907 and died in 1991. He became blind from glaucoma when he was two years old, but he went on to study the organ at the National School for the Blind and the Paris Conservatoire, and was active as an organist at the Sainte-Clotilde Basilica in Paris. Langley is prolific and has composed 254 songs. His most famous works are Messe Solennelle, missa salve regina and missa in simplicitate.

Gaston Gilbert Litaize

French composer and organist born in 1909 and died in 1991. Shortly after his birth, he became blind due to an illness, but he was active as an organist at the Abbey of St. Francois-Xavier in Paris. He is also active as a music teacher at the National Youth School for the Blind. In 1938 he won the second prize in the Prix de Rome for composition.

Andre Marchal

French organist born in 1894 and died in 1980. He is said to be a driving force in the revival of the organ boom in modern France. Already blind from birth, he remained blind until his death. Despite this, he achieved overwhelming results at the Paris Conservatoire, winning first prize in 1913 and first prize in 1917. In 1965 he was awarded the Order of Arts and Letters.

Jean-Pierre Leguay

French organist born in 1939. Although blind, he was honored organist at the Notre-Dame des Champs in Paris from 1961 to 1984, and in 1985 he performed at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris with Olivier Latry, Yves DeVernay and Philippe. Along with Lefebvre, he was named an organist of honor. He is frequently invited by radio networks, academies, universities and conservatories in France and abroad.
