History of classical guitar

There is a theory that the origin of classical guitar is an ancient Egyptian musical instrument called “Neffel” or “Aude”. Mural paintings from the Mesopotamian and Egyptian eras depict what appears to be a classical guitar. It is said that the ancient Greek musical instrument “Cithara” is probably the ancestor of classical guitar. It is said that “Cithara” was introduced to Spain from Assyria via Persia and Arabia by the invasion of Saracen troops, and in the 16th century it became “Vihuela” with a flat body, which was the predecessor of the guitar. From Vieura, the 16th and 18th centuries “Guitarra” was born, but the strings were not fixed at 4 or 5 courses for the return strings, and the sound hole was also a watermark. Around the 19th century, the heyday of the guitar came, and the guitar was used for chamber music. The guitar of this time has a round sound hole with 6 strings and has evolved into the basic type of modern guitars. And the present classical guitar was completed by the guitar maker Antonio de Torres in the latter half of the 19th century. Since then, classical guitar has spread all over the world. Currently, it is a major musical instrument that appears in various genres such as popular songs, classical music, and folk music.

Features of classical guitar

Classical guitars use nylon strings. Instead of using a pick, you can play the strings with your fingers or nails to make a sound. Compared to an acoustic guitar, it has a thick neck and is difficult to play for people with short fingers or small hands. Classical guitars are quiet and have a very gentle and blurry tone. Classical guitars have a thick neck. Nylon strings have a large swing width, and if the strings are too close to each other, the strings will hit each other and the sound will be disturbed. Therefore, the neck is thickened to allow sufficient space between the strings. As standard, it has 6 strings and 19 frets, and is generally tuned from the 6th string side to E2, A2, D3, G3, B3, E4, and the range is E2 to B5. Recently, a 7-string guitar with one bass string added and the lowest note being B1 or a 10-string guitar with an increased number of strings has appeared. Classical guitar is a very versatile instrument used in a wide variety of genres such as pop, tango, jazz, folk music and healing. It is also often used in American country music.
