Johannes Link 1847-1914
Sonar founder Johannes Link was born in a small village called the Barbarian. From an early age he began his career as a woodworking wheel and leather tanner. In 1875, Johanneslink built the first Sonoa percussion and drumhead factory in Weissenfels on the Saale. The management of the company was taken over by Ottolink in 1914.
Established in 1875 by Johannes Link. At the beginning of the business, only a few craftsmen produced genuine leather military drums, but we will expand our business to include timpani, concert drums, xylophone, glockenspiel, tambourine, cymbals, and triangles. In 1907, the brand name “SONOR” was officially registered with the Munich Imperial Patent Office. In 1914, after the death of founder Johannes Link, his only son, Otto Link, took over the factory. In 1950, the factory was forced to nationalize by the former East Germany, and Sonar decided to relocate to the Land of the Free, the former West Germany. The new factory in Westfalia, West Germany, was taken over by his only son, Holst Link, after the death of Otto Link in 1955.
Features of SONOR
SONOR is a general trading company for drums and percussion, but it is known for its good reputation for snare drums. The smooth movement of the snare is very popular with players so that it becomes fun to operate. SONOR has adopted a method of thoroughly increasing the volume by attaching heavy metal parts to the extra-thick shell of beach wood, starting with the signature, and this method became popular with users. It has become a major European drum maker in the 1970s and 1980s.
It is made of birch and combined with the new “Sound Sustainer”.
The SQ2 series allows you to virtually assemble a drum set on Sonar’s website.
